Customising your eBay "About Me" page
By Harvey Partridge
For regular users of eBay, here is a way to sell yourself to prospective customers - a potential shopwindow, or help desk. If you know any HTML (HyperText Markup Language - web page creation language) then you can make your "About Me" Page reflect your eBay and other interests in a personal kind of way - your own colours, layouts, content, etc. This mini tutorial takes you beyond the simplest customisations allowed by eBay without HTML. From the "My eBay" dropdown, or from the links on the left of your My eBay home page, select "Account". In the list on the left, select "Personal Information". In the first group, "User ID and Password Information", you will see, as the last item, "About Me Page", and in the last column, "Edit" - click on this. At this point you have to login again for added security - you don't want just anybody messing with your "About Me" Page! Having selected "Edit your page", you have a choice between "Use our easy Step-by-Step process" and "Enter your own HTML code" before clicking "Continue". The easy one allows you to add text, pictures, references to your items for sale, to name just a few. Selecting this removes any HTML code you may have added before. Now, where were we? Oh yes, your own HTML code. Whatever you write must be bracketed by a

pair and can include paragraphs
, tables

, lists

and include CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) formatting. Example:

All you need to know about me.

You'll like me, I'm ...

honest

reliable

truthful

upstanding

Would I lie to you?

I like to write my code in a text editor - NoteBook, gVim, etc. You could use a word processor if you prefer. This allows me to let the creative juices flow without interruption from crashes, updates, cats on the keyboard, etc. Having crafted the code, it's back to eBay, cut and paste, et voila! Now press "Continue" to see what it looks like. If you don't like it, you can use the "Back" button in order to rewrite, else use "Submit" and Bob's your uncle. I use my About Me page to add extra information about postal rates - insurance, registered post, letter post, parcel post - which, I hope, reduces the number of eBay messages about postage costs. It could be used for an informal blog or bulletin board - within eBay rules of course. Let me know how you use yours ... PS Don't go putting HTML in your intel ... it's not allowed! |

I have set up a about me page on Ebay and sometimes I wonder if anyone reads it because I still get questions. Is there anyway to track traffic on the about me page?
